Privacy Policy

1. Introduction +
Hapin, Inc. operates a service to help you discover films and events, set reminders across the channel you choose (calendar, digital wallet, email, or text message), find showtimes, and buy tickets. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and your choices and rights.
2. Information We Collect +
Personal information you provide to us. What we collect depends on which reminder channels you use. This may include:
- Phone number (for SMS reminders)
- Email address (for email reminders, or if provided through single sign-on)
- Name (if provided through single sign-on)
- Calendar access, if you grant permission to add, update, or remove reminder events
- Wallet pass data, if you receive a reminder as an Apple Wallet or Google Wallet pass
- Film, event, and showtime selections you make
If you use our showtimes or ticketing features, our exhibitor or ticketing partners may collect additional information directly from you, such as payment or identity verification details. Hapin does not store your full payment card data; that's handled by our partners under their own privacy policies.
Information automatically collected. We automatically collect certain technical information, which does not on its own reveal your identity, to help provide reminders and suggestions:
- Log and usage data, such as IP address, device information, browser type, timestamps, and feature usage
- Device data, such as hardware model, operating system, and mobile carrier
- Approximate location, inferred from your IP address, to show relevant theaters and showtimes
Personal information shared for coordinating with others. Movies and events are often shared experiences. If you share a film or event reminder with friends or family to coordinate attending together, we may collect and use the contact information (name, phone number, or email) needed to facilitate that sharing.
3. How We Use Your Information +
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate the services, including delivering reminders across your chosen channel and directing you to showtimes or ticketing
- Communicate with you, including sending reminders and responding to support inquiries
- Improve and maintain the services, including troubleshooting and keeping them secure
- Measure campaign performance for studio and exhibitor partners, using de-identified or aggregated data — this does not involve sharing your individual identity
- Prevent fraud and abuse
- Comply with the law, including recordkeeping obligations such as retaining SMS consent records
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do use it to help studios and exhibitors reach relevant audiences with promotions, which is legally considered "sharing" under California and other state privacy laws. See "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" below for details and how to opt out.
4. Use of Google Calendar Data +
If you use Google Calendar reminders, Hapin requests limited access via Google's Calendar API to create, update, and remove reminder events on your behalf. We don't access, read, or store any other calendar events, contacts, or Google Account data.
This use adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data from the Calendar API is:
- Used only to provide the reminder feature, for no other purpose
- Never used for advertising, including personalized or retargeted ads
- Never sold, rented, or transferred to data brokers or other third parties
- Never used to train AI or machine learning models
- Never read by Hapin personnel, except for security, legal compliance, or with your consent
You can revoke access anytime through your device's calendar settings or your Google Account permissions page. This stops future reminder events but won't delete ones already added.
5. Apple Wallet Pass Data +
If you use an Apple Wallet reminder, Hapin generates a digital pass with film or event information and issues it via Apple's PassKit framework. Each pass has an internal identifier that lets us send updates, such as a release date change.
If you sign in with Apple, we receive an account identifier and either your email or an Apple-generated private relay address. We don't share relay addresses with third parties, consistent with Apple's requirements.
To deliver pass updates, we register your device with Apple's Push Notification service (APNs), which routes notifications without accessing your pass content.
You can remove a pass anytime from Apple Wallet, which stops future updates.
6. Text Message (SMS) Reminders +
If you choose SMS reminders, you'll provide your phone number. By confirming, you consent to receive automated texts related to your requested reminders.
- Message frequency varies by how many reminders you set
- Message and data rates may apply
- Carriers aren't liable for delayed or undelivered messages
- Reply STOP to opt out anytime, or HELP for assistance
- SMS consent isn't required to use other parts of the service
Our SMS provider processes your phone number and message content solely to deliver texts, per their own privacy practices.
7. Email Reminders +
If you choose to receive a film or event reminder by email, you'll provide your email address, and we'll send you messages related to the film(s), event(s), and showtime(s) you selected. You can unsubscribe from reminder emails at any time using the link included in any email we send, or by contacting us at info@hapin.co.
Our email service provider processes your email address and message content solely to deliver these messages, per their own privacy practices.
8. How We Share Your Information +
Service providers. We share information with vendors bound by contract to use it only for the services they provide us: SMS delivery, email delivery, payment processing, data hosting, and analytics.
Advertising platforms. See "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" below.
Ticketing and exhibitor partners. See "Ticketing and Exhibitor Partners" below.
Studios and exhibitors. We help studios and exhibitors reach relevant audiences with promotions without disclosing your raw personal information to them. See "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" below for details and how to opt out.
Professional advisors. We may disclose information to lawyers, auditors, and accountants, under confidentiality obligations, as needed for their services to us.
Legal and safety. We may disclose information where required by law or necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Hapin, our users, or others.
Business transfers. In a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may transfer as part of the deal. We'll notify you if this subjects your information to a different policy.
Aggregated and de-identified data. We may share information that no longer reasonably identifies you; this Policy doesn't restrict that use.
9. Ticketing and Exhibitor Partners +
Using our showtimes or ticketing features may direct you to a theater, ticketing platform, or exhibitor partner, or the purchase may be completed through Hapin's own point-of-sale system. We share only what's necessary to fulfill your purchase, deliver a promotion you've opted into, and measure reminder effectiveness, such as the film or event, showtime, and referral identifiers.
When your purchase is completed by a partner, your payment details are handled by that partner or their payment processor under their own privacy policy, and we encourage you to review it before purchasing. When your purchase is completed through Hapin's own system, payments are processed as described in "Payments" below, and we still never store your full payment card information.
This section will be updated as our ticketing and promotional partnerships expand.
10. Payments +
For payments Hapin processes directly (e.g., future loyalty or promotional purchases), we use a third-party payment processor. Your card details go directly to their secure systems, not ours. They may collect additional information, like billing address, to process payment and prevent fraud, per their own policy.
We receive limited transaction information back, such as confirmation of success, amount, and a transaction ID, to fulfill your purchase and provide support.
11. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information +
Hapin doesn't sell your personal information for money. We do use it to help studios and exhibitors reach relevant audiences with promotions, for example, showing a promotion to people who set a reminder for a similar film or event, without disclosing your raw personal information to them. Under the CCPA and similar laws, this is legally "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Advertising platforms and lookalike audiences. To help reach new people who may be interested in Hapin, we may provide advertising platforms with a list of identifiers derived from your contact information (such as a hashed version of your email address or phone number). These platforms use this to build "lookalike" audiences — groups of new people who share characteristics with our existing users — for advertising purposes. This is legally considered a "sale" of personal information under the CCPA and similar state laws, even though we do not receive money for it. The opt-out below applies to this practice as well.
You can opt out anytime by contacting info@hapin.co and we'll honor your request.
Opting out doesn't affect your ability to receive reminders; it only affects whether your activity helps studios and exhibitors reach you with additional promotions.
12. Sensitive Personal Information +
Precise geolocation is classified as Sensitive Personal Information under the CCPA/CPRA and similar laws, with additional protections.
Hapin may collect precise location to notify you when you're near a theater or venue showing a saved film or event. If we do, we will:
- Collect it only with your device-level permission
- Use it solely for that feature
- Not use it for profiling or cross-context advertising
- Let you disable it anytime without affecting other reminder features
California residents can limit the use of Sensitive Personal Information to necessary purposes. Contact info@hapin.co with questions.
13. Data Retention +
We retain information as long as necessary to provide the services and meet legal obligations, then delete or de-identify it:
- Phone numbers and email addresses are kept indefinitely as a record of your reminders and consent. Request deletion anytime at info@hapin.co, subject to the exception below.
- SMS consent records (number, timestamp, consent language) are kept for our relationship's duration plus a legally required period, even after you delete your contact info, solely to demonstrate valid consent.
- Internal account identifiers link your reminders and preferences across sessions and don't reveal your identity on their own; retained indefinitely.
Contact info@hapin.co to delete your information; we'll delete or de-identify what we can, keeping only what's legally required.
14. Security +
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Report security issues to info@hapin.co.
15. Your Rights +
Under the CCPA and similar comprehensive privacy laws in states including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, and Oregon, you have the right to:
- Know what categories of personal information we collect, use, and disclose, and why
- Access, correct, or delete your personal information (see "Data Retention" above for deletion exceptions)
- Obtain a portable copy of your personal information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, including for targeted advertising (see "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" above)
- Limit the use of Sensitive Personal Information (see above)
We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Contact us at info@hapin.co, or by mail using the address in "Contact Us" below, to exercise them. We'll verify your identity where required and respond within the legal timeframe. If we deny a request, you may appeal by replying to our denial; if denied again, you may contact your state's Attorney General.
Cookies. Our website may use cookies to operate and improve the site. Control them through your browser settings; disabling some may affect functionality.
16. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) +
Hapin's services aren't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If we learn we've collected information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we'll delete it promptly.
Contact info@hapin.co if you believe we've collected a child's information. We may suspend or terminate accounts if we believe a user misrepresented their age.
17. Changes to This Policy +
We may update this policy. Changes will update the "Last Updated" date above and, where legally required, come with additional notice. Continued use after a change takes effect means you accept the update.
